Explain elimination reaction. Give example.

When a haloalkane is heated with alcoholic potassium hydroxide, there is elimination of hydrogen from `beta`-carbon and a halogen atom from the `prop`-carbon atom. As a result, an alkene is formed. This reaction is called `beta`-elimination reaction or dehydrohalogenation reaction.
