Discuss the classification of polymers on the basis of their structures.

Explanation

Based on molecular foroes polymers are classified into four types
(a) Elastomers: These are the polymers in which polymer chains are heldy weak intermolecular forces Ex: Natural rubber.
(b) Fibres: Thoso are polymors which have tho strong intermolecular force between the chains. Ex: Nylon, Silk.
(e) Thermoplastic polymers: Theso are linear chain polymere in which inter molocular forces are intermidiate between elastomers and fibres.
These are the polymers softoned on hoating and harden on cooling.
Ex: Polythene, PVC, Polystyrene.
(d) Thermosetting polymers: These are heavily branched molecules which undergoos extensive cross linking on heating in moulds and again become infusible. Ex: Bakelite.
