The value of K(c) for the reaction 2A hA...

The value of `K_(c)` for the reaction `2A hArr B+C` is `2.0xx10^(-3)`. At a given time, the composition of reaction mixture is `[A]=[B]=[C]=3xx10^(-4)M`. In which direction the reaction will proceed?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For the reaction the reaction quotient `Q_(c)` is given by.
`Q_(c) = [B][C]//[A]^(2)`
as `[A] = [B] = [C] = 3 xx 10^(-4) M`
`Q_(c) = (3 xx 10^(-4))(3 xx 10^(-4))//(3 xx 10^(-4))^(2) = 1`
as `Q_(c) gt K_(c)` so the reaction will proceed in the reverse direction.
