How is ammonia manufactured industrially?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ammonia is prepared on a large-scale by the Haber’s process.
`N2 (g) + 3H2 (g) hArr 2NH3 (g)" "DeltafHo = - 46.1 kJ//mol`
The optimum conditions for manufacturing ammonia are:
(i) Pressure (around `200 × 10^(5)` Pa)
(ii) Temperature (700 K)
(iii) Catalyst such as iron oxide with small amounts of `Al_(2)O_(3)` and `K_(2)O`
