A `60 mu F` capacitor is connected to a 110 V, 60 Hz a.c. supply Determine the r.m.s value of current in the circuit.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Capacitance of capacitor, `C=60muF=60xx10^(-6)F`
Supply voltage, V=110V
Frequency, v=60Hz
Angular freqeuncy, `omega=2piV`
Capacitive reactance `X_(c)=(1)/(omegaC)`
`=(1)/(2xx3.14xx60xx60xx10^(-6))Omega^(-1)`
Tms value of current is given as:
`I=(v)/(X_(c))`
`=110xx2xx3.14xx60xx10^(-6)xx60=2.49A`
Hence, the rms value of current is 2.49A.
