Probability that a truck stopped at  ...

Probability that a truck stopped at  a road block will have faulty brakes or badly worn tires are 0.3 and 0.24, respectively. Also, the probability is 0.38 that a truck stopped at the roadblock will have faulty brakes and or badly working tires. What is the probability that a truck stopped at this road block will have faulty brakes as well as badly worn tires?

Let `B ` be the event that a truck stopped at the roadblock will have faulty brakes
and
`T` be the event that it will have badly worn tires.
We have
`P (B) = 0.23, P (T) = 0.24` and `P (BuuT) = 0.38`
and `P (B uu T) = P (B) + P (T) – P (B nn T) `
`=>0.38 = 0.23 + 0.24 – P (B nn T) `
`=>P (B nn T) = 0.23 + 0.24 – 0.38 = 0.09`

A machine has three parts, A, B and C, whose chances of being defective are 0.02, 0.10 and 0.05 respectively. The machine stops working if any one of the parts becomes defective. What is the probability that the machine will not stop working?

Two cars travelling towards each other on a straight road at velocity 10 m//s and 12 m//s respectively. When they are 150 metre apart, both drivers apply their brakes and each car decelerates at 2 m//s^(2) until it stops. How far apart will they be when they have both come to a stop?

The speed of a moving car is 60kmh^(-1) . The wheels having diameter of 0.60 m are stopped in 10 rotations by applying brakes. What will be the angular retardation produced by brakes?

When hard brakes are applied (so as to lock the wheels) in a car travelling on a wet road it can “hydro-plane”. A film of water is created between the tires and the road and, theoretically, the car can slide a very long distance. [In practice film is destroyed much before such distances can be achieved]. Consider a car of mass M moving on a wet road with speed v_(0) . Hard brakes are applied. Let the area of film under all four tires be A and thickness of the film be h. Coefficient of viscosity is eta . (a) Calculate the distance (x) to which the car will slide before coming to rest. Calculate the value of x for M=10^(3) kg, A=0.2 m^(2), h=0.1 mm, v_(0)=20ms^(-1) , and eta=10^(-3) kg m^(-1)

You drive a beat-up pickup truck along a straight road for 8.4 km at 70 km/h, at which point the truck runs out of gasoline and stops. Over the next 30 min, you walk another 2.0 km farther along the road to a gasoline station. (b) What is the time interval Delta t from the beginning of your drive to your arrival at the station ?
