Why transistor can not be used as rectifier?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

If transistor is to be used as a rectifier the either emitter-base or base-collector has to used as diode. For equated working of the said set of diodes, the number density of charge carriers in emitter and base or base and collector must be approximately same. As base is lightly doped and comparatively thin, so emitter cannot work as a rectifier.
