The ratio of the height above the surface of earth to the depth below, the surface of earth, for gravitational accelerations to be the same (assuming small heights) is

A

`0.25`

B

`0.5`

C

`1.0`

D

`1.25`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Gravitation at height h from surface,
`g_(h)=g(1-(2h)/( R ))`
Gravitation at depth d from surface,
`g_(d)=g(1-d//R)`
For `" "g_(h)=g_(d)`
`implies" "d=2h`
So, ratio of height w.r.t. depth is
`(h)/(d)=(1)/(2)=0.5`
