Two masses `m_(1)` and `m_(2)` are placed on a smooth horizontal surface and are connected by a string of negligible mass. A horizontal force F is applied on the mass `m_(2)` as shown in the figure. The tenison in the string is

A

`((m_(1))/(m_(1) + m_(2))) F`

B

`(m_(2)F)/(m_(1) + m_(2))`

C

`((m_(1))/(m_(2)))F`

D

`(m_(2) F)/(m_(1))`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
a

According to the question, force (F) is applied on `m_(2)` mass
so, tension in the string
`T = m_(1) xx a`
or `T = m_(1) xx (F)/((m_(1) + m_(2))) [:' a = (F)/(m_(2) + m_(2))]`
Or `T = ((m_(1))/(m_(1) + m_(2))) F`
