Determine the other root of the equation...

Determine the other root of the equation `x^(2)-(2+b)x+6=0` if one of its roots is 2.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Since 2 is a root of the equation `x^(2)-(2+b)x+6=0`, we get,
`2^(2)-(2+b).2+6=0or,4-4-2+6=0`
or, `2b=6.or,b=(6)/(2)=3`.
Hence, the other root is 3.
Aliter : Product of the roots `=(6)/(1)=6`.
One of the roots in 2 `:.` the other root is `(6)/(2)=3`.
