The equilibrium concentration of C(2)H(4...

The equilibrium concentration of `C_(2)H_(4)` in the following gas phase reaction can be increased by
`C_(2)H_(4)(g) + H_(2)(g) hArr C_(2)H_(6)(g), DeltaH = 32.7kcal`

A

Removal of `C_(2)H_(6)`

B

Removal `H_(2)` of

C

Increase in temperature

D

Increase in pressure

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Since, `C_(2)H_(4)` is one of the reactant, its concentration increases when backward reaction predominates over forward reaction.
According to Le-Chatelier's principle, decrease in concentration of one of the reactants favours backward reaction.
i.e., `C_(2)H_(6) hArr C_(2)H_(4)+ H_(2)`
While, decrease in concentration of one of the products, increase in temperature and increase in pressure favour forward reaction.
