What is the approximate quantity of electricity (in coulomb) required to deposit all the silver from 250 mL of 1 M `AgNO_(3)` aqueous solution?

A

96500

B

24125

C

48250

D

12062.5

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Volume of solution (V) = 250 mL
Molecular weight of `AgNO_(3)`, (m) = 170 g
`M= (w xx 1000)/(mxxv) implies 1 = (w xx 1000)/(170 xx 250)`
`w = 170/4 AgNO_(3)`
`because` 170g of `AgNO_(3)` contains 108g of Ag
`therefore 170/4" g of "AgNO_(3)` contains `-180/4 g` of Ag
` because` 96500 C is required to deposit 108g of Ag.
`108/4` g of Ag is deposited by, `Q =96,500/108 xx 108/4`
` therefore Q = 24125C`.
