Where should an object be placed on the axis of a convex lens of focal length 8 cm, so as to achieve magnification of -4? (Distances are measured from optic centre of the lens)

A

`-6 cm`

B

`- 10 cm`

C

`-12 cm`

D

`- 9 cm`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Magnification , `M = (F)/(mu + F)`
`rArr -4 (8)/(mu +8 )`
`rArr - 4mu - 32 =8`
`rArr - 4mu = 40`
`therefore mu = - 10 cm`
