During an adiabatic process , the pressure of a gas is proportional to the cube of its temperature . The value of `C_(I)//C_(v)` for that gas is

A

`1/5`

B

`4/3`

C

`5/3`

D

`3/2`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

`P alpha T^(3)` …….(1)
In an adiabatic process,
`P alpha T^(gamma//gamma-1)` ………(2)
On comparing equations (1) and (2), we get,
`(gamma)/(gamma - 1) =3`
`implies gamma = (3)/(2)`
`therefore C_(p)/C_(v) = gamma=(3)/(2)`

During an adiabatic process, if the pressure of an ideal gas is proportional to the cube of its temperature, find gamma .

For 1 mole of an ideal gas, during an adiabatic process, the square of the pressure of a gas is found to be proportional to the cube of its absolute temperature. The specific heat of the gas at constant volume is (R - universal gas constant)

An ideal gas is found to obey pV^(3/2) = constant during an adiabatic process. If such a gas initially at a temperature T is adiabatically compressed to half of its initial volume, then its final temperature is
