A plant is growing . What do you think of the entropy changes of the plant and its surroundings?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The entropy decreases during the growth of the plant (i.e., system) because ordered structure of the plant is formed during its growth. But the entropy of the surroundings increases during the process. The increase in entropy of the surroundings is much greater than the decrease in entropy of the system. as a result the net entropy change of the system and its surroundings is always positive during the growth of a plant.
