100 ml of a liquid is present in an insulated container at a pressure of 1 bar. The pressure is steeply increased to 100 bar. The volume of the liquid is decreased by 1 ml at this constant pressure. Find the values of `Delta H and Delta U`.

As the container is insulated, no exchange of heat takes place between the system and its surroundings. Hence, q=0. In the process, `w= - P_(ex)(V_(2)-V_(1))`
`= -100 " bar " xx(-1 mL)= 100` mL bar.
`therefore Delta U= q+w= 0+ 100 " mL bar " =100 " mL bar"`.
H= U+ PV
or , `Delta H= Delta U + Delta (PV)= Delta U + P_(2)V_(2)-P_(1)V_(1)`
`therefore Delta H= 100 mL " bar" + (99xx100-100xx1) ` mL bar
`[ therefore V_(2)= (100-1) mL = 99 mL., P_(2)=100 " bar ", V_(1)=100 " mL and " P_(1)= 1 " bar" ]`
`therefore Delta H= (100+9800) " mL bar = 9900 " mL bar "`.
