How can you decolourise a sample of slightly brown coloured impure sugar?

When aqueous solution of brown coloured impure sugar is heated with activated charcoal , a mixture is obtained, which on filtration gives a colourless solution. The solution is concentrated by heating and then cooled. As a result colourless crystals of pure sugar are obtained.
