"Graphite acits as a better lubricant on the moon compared to that on earth" - Justify the validity of the statement.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The statement is not correct. Different substances like air, water vapour and other gaseous materials enter into the layers of graphite when it is on earth, thus enhancing its lubricating property. However, moon is devoid of atmosphere. Thus, due to absence of water vapour and gaseous substances, the lubricating property of graphite is quite less on the moon.
