Silicon in elemental form does not form a graphite- like structure. Explain.

Silicon is larger in size than carbon. Thus, pn-pn bonding is not so effective in case of Si than in case of C-atom. In graphite, pn-pn bonding is effective due to the smaller size of carbon. Thus, Si does not resemble graphite. Rather, it resembles diamond and is a poor conductor of electricity.
