No visible reaction is observed when Al metal is left in contact with concentrated `HNO_3` . Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Al is a reactive metal and hence it initially reacts with cone. `HNO_3 " to form " Al_2O_3`. The oxide forms a protective layer on the surface of the metal and it becomes passive. Thus, no visible reaction is observed.
