Explain why HF is not stored in glass containers.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`SiO_2` present in glass reacts readily with hydrofluoric acid (HF) to form `H_2 SiF_6` which is soluble in nature. `
`SiO_2 + 6HF to underset("soluble")(H_2SiF_6) + 2H_2O`
Hence, HF is not stored in glass containers.
