A mixture contains two organic solids, A and B. The solubilities o f A and B in water are 12 g per 100 ml. and 3 g per 100 ml respectively. How will you separate A and B from this mixture?

The two components can be separted by fractional crystallisation. When the saturated hot solution of his mixture is allowed to cood, the more soluble compound, B crystallises out first leaving the more soluble compound, A in the mother liquor. The mother liqours is then concentrated and allowed to cool when the compound A crystallises out.
