The R(f) values of X and Y in a mixture ...

The `R_(f)` values of X and Y in a mixture determined by TLC method in a solvent mixrture are 0.75 and 0.25 respectively. If the mixture is separated by column chromatography using the same solvent mixture as the mobile phase, which of the two components, will elute first and why?

Text Solution

The higher `R_(f)` value of X (0.75) indicates that it is less strongly adsorbed as compared to compound Y having lower `R_(f)` value (0.52). Therefore, if the mixture is separated by column chromatography using the same solvent mixture as the mobile phase, X will be eluted first.

The R_(f) values of two compounds, X and Y in a mixture determined by TLC are 0.66 and 0.41 respectively. If the mixture is separated by column chromotography using the same solvent mixture as the mobile phase, which one of the two compounds will be eluted first and why?

A mixture contains 1.0 mole each of NaOH, Na2CO3 and NaHCO3. When half of mixture is titrated with HCI.it required x mole of HCI in presence of phenolphthalein. In another experiment, half of mixture required y mole of same HCI in presence of methyl orange. Find the value of(x + y)

If a continuous function f defined on the real line R assume positive and negative values in R, then the equation f(x)=0 has a root in R. For example, if it is known that a continuous function f on R is positive at some point and its minimum value is negative, then the equation f(x)=0 has a root in R. Consider f(x)= ke^(x)-x , for all real x where k is a real constant. For k > 0, the set of all values of k for which y=ke^(x)-x=0 has two distinct roots is

Suppose that the foci of the ellipse (x^(2))/(9)+(y^(2))/(5)=-1 are (f_(1),0) and (f_(2),0) where f_(1)gt0 and f_(2)lt0 . Let P_(1) and P_(2) be two parabolas with a common vertex at (0, 0) and with foci at (f_(1),0) and (2f_(2),0) respectively. Let T_(1) be a tangent to P_(1) which passes through (2f_(2),0) and T_(2) be a tangent to P_(2) which passes Through (f_(1),0) . If m_(1) is the slope of T_(1) and m_(2) is the slope of T_(2) , then the value of ((1)/(m_(1)^(2))+m_(2)^(2)) is -

Suppose that the foci of the ellipse (x^2)/9+(y^2)/5=1 are (f_1,0)a n d(f_2,0) where f_1>0a n df_2<0. Let P_1a n dP_2 be two parabolas with a common vertex at (0, 0) and with foci at (f_1 .0)a n d (2f_2 , 0), respectively. Let T_1 be a tangent to P_1 which passes through (2f_2,0) and T_2 be a tangents to P_2 which passes through (f_1,0) . If m_1 is the slope of T_1 and m_2 is the slope of T_2, then the value of (1/(m_1^ 2)+m_2^ 2) is
