In Carius method of estimation of halogens, 250 g of an organic compound gave 141 g AgBr. Precentage of Br in the compound `(Ag = 108,Br=80)`-

A

48

B

60

C

24

D

36

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Molecular mass of AgBr = (108 + 80) = 188
In 141 g of AgBr amount of Br `=(108+80)/(188)g = 60 g.`
This amount of Br is obtained from organic compound.
`therefore` " " 250 g organic compound contains 60g Br.
So, 100 g organic compound cotains
`(60xx100)/(250)=24`g Br.
