Which one between the two CH(3)COoverset...

Which one between the two `CH_(3)COoverset(Theta)(C)H_(2)` and `CH_(3)COoverset(Theta)(C)HOCH_(3)` is more stable and why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Negative charge on the carbanion - carbon of `CH_(3)COoverset(Theta)(CH_(2))` is involved in delocalisation with the `pi` - electrons of only carbonyl group. On the other hand, -ve charge on the carboanion - carbon of `CH_(3)COoverset(Theta)(C)HCOCH_(3)` is involved in doleclisation with the `pi` - electrons of two carbonyl groups. Thus the second carbanion is more stable.
