Suggest a method to purify: (i) iodine containing traces of common salt:
(ii) Kerosene containing a little of water and
(iii) camphor containing a little benzoic acid.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) On sublimation, `(I_(2)` sublimes leaving behind NaCI. Alternatively, `I_(2)` can be extracted with `C CI_(4)` and the extract on evaporation gives `I_(2)`.
(ii) Kerosene and water are immiscible liquids having different densities. So they can be separated by using a separating funnel.
(iii) on boiling with water, benzoic acid dissolves but camphur remains insoluble , which can be separated by filtration (under hot condition).
