Explain the reason for the fusion of an organic compound with metallic sodium in Lassaigne's test.

The purpose of fusion of an organic compound with metallic sodium is to convert nitrogen, sulphur and halogen present in the organic compound to water soluble cyanide, sodium sulphide and sodium halide respectively.
