Why do C-C bonds instead of C-H bonds of alkanes dissociate due to the effect of heat ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Bond energy of C-C bond `(Delta H =83 kcal.mol^(-1))` is less than that of C-H bond `(DeltaH=99 kcal.mol^(-1))`. So, C-C bond dissociates more easily than C-H bond.
