Arrange the following compounds in order of their increasing stability and explain the reason :
2-buten, propene,2-methylbut -2-ene

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The order of increasing stability of the given alkenes is -
Propene `lt` 2-butene `lt` -methylbut-2-ene
Number of hyperconjugable hydrogen in propene, 2-butene and 2-methylbut-2-ene molecules are 3,6 and 12 respectively . With increase in number of hyperconjugable hydrogen, stability due to hyperconjugative effect of the molecules increases.
