An arene when oxidised forms 1,3-dicarboxylic acid. Write the numbers of side chains and their position in the arene.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

As the arene gets oxidised to a dicarboxylic acid , it has two side chains. It can be said that the two sides chains are at 1,3- or meta-position of each other because a 1,3-dicarboxylic acid forms in the oxidation.
