Distinguish between benzene and toluene with the help of a chemical reaction.

Toluene on oxidation by alkaline `KMnO_4` and subsequent acidification produces shining white crystals of benzoic acid. Benzene , on the other hand , does not undergo oxidation with alkaline `KMnO_4` to form any white precipitate.
