Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ethylation of benzene means introduction of an ethyl group in the benzene ring. This reaction is carried out by Friedel-Crafts reaction of benzene with ethyl halide (chloride or bromide), ethene or ethanol. Lewis acids, other than anhydrous `AlCl_(3)`, that can be used in this reaction are anhydrous `FeCl_(3), SnCl_(4), BF_(3)HF` etc.
