The reaction of `CH_2=CH-overset(oplus)N(CH_3)_3overset(Theta)I` takes place contrary to Markownikoff's rule- why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The carbocation formed due to addition of `H^+` to the carbon atom containing higher number of hydrogen atoms becomes unstable because of electron-attractin `-overset(oplus)Nme_3` group. So, the reaction takes place contrary to Markownikoff's rule
