Many spray-bottles from which a perfume is sprayed contain a very harmful substance. By what name is it commonly known? Why is it harmful?

The harmful constituent is chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) or Freons. When they diffuse into the upper atmosphere, they absorb ultraviolet radiation which ruptures carbon-chlorine bonds to give chlorine atoms. The chlorine atoms thus produced cause destruction of the ozone layer which shields the earth from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation of the sun. This is the reason for which CFCs are very harmful
