The rate equation for a reaction is give...

The rate equation for a reaction is given by rate, `=k[A][B]^(3//2)` . Determine if the given reaction is an elementary reaction.

Text Solution

For an elementary reaction , the molecularity and overall order are the same. The rate law for the reaction gives an overall order of `(1+(3)/(2))=(5)/(2)` . Now , the molecularity of a reaction is always a whole number . Hence , the overall order and molecularity of the given reaction can never be the same Therefore , the given reaction is not ab elementary reaction.
