For the reaction `A+BrarrC` , the experimentally obtained rate law is ,rate `k[A]^(2)[B]` . What effect will produce on the rate reaction if the concentration of A is halved and that of B is doubled ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Rate r = `k[A]^(2)[B]`
If the rate of the reaction becomes `r_(1)` on making the concentration of A half and that of B doubled , then
`r_(1)=k [(A)/(2)]^(2)[2B]=(1)/(2)k[A]^(2)[B]=(r)/(2)`
Thus, the rate of the reaction reduces to half of its initial value.
