What will happen if a few drops of HCl is added to freshly prepared precipitate of `Fe(OH)_(3)` ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A small portion of `Fe(OH)_(3)` reacts with HCl to form `FeCl_(3). Fe^(3+)` ions from `FeCl_(3)`, get adsorbed on the remaining precipitate of `Fe(OH)_(3)`. This causes peptisation, by means of which particles of the precipitate gets dispersed, forming a positively charged `Fe(OH)_(3)`, sol.
