SF(6) exists but SH(6) has no existence-...

`SF_(6)` exists but `SH_(6)` has no existence-why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`F_(2)` is the strongest oxidising agent. It oxidises sulphur to its maximum oxidation state of +6. Hence, `SF_(6)` is formed.
On the other hand, `H_(2)` is a very weak oxidising agent. It cannot oxidise sulphur to its maximum oxidation state of +6. Thus, sulphur does not form `SH_(6)` .
