IF(7) exists but BrF(7) does not-why?...

`IF_(7)` exists but `BrF_(7)` does not-why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In `IF_(7)` the central iodine atom is large enough to accommodate seven F -atoms around its atomic sphere. However, the central Br -atom in `BrF_(7)` is not large enough to accommodate seven F -atoms within its atomic sphere. Because of this `IF_(7)` exists, but `BrF_(7)` does not.
