ICI is more reactive than I(2) -why?...

ICI is more reactive than `I_(2)` -why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The bond in I-Cl , formed by the combination of two different electronegative elements, is considerably polar. Therefore, it is weaker ( undergoes easy ionisation) than the non-polar I-I bond. Hence, ICI is more reactive than `I_(2)`.
