Perchloric acid is a stronger acid than sulphuric acid. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The conjugate base of perchloric acid `(HClO_(4))` is more resonance stabilised than the conjugate base of sulphuric acid `(H_(2)SO_(4))`. The greater stability of ions is also due to greater electronegativity of the central chlorine atom. For these reasons, perchloric acid is a stronger acid than sulphuric acid.
