`KMnO_(4)` should not be dissolved in conc. `H_(2)SO_(4)`. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`KMnO_(4)` reacts with conc. `H_(2)SO_(4)` to form `Mn_(2)O_(7)` which is unstable and explosive in nature. Hence, it should not be dissolved in conc. `H_(2)SO_(4)`
`2KMnO_(4)+2H_(2)SO_(4)toK_(2)SO_(4)+(MnO_(3))_(2)SO_(4)+2H_(2)O`
`(MnO_(3))_(2)SO_(4)+H_(2)OtoMn_(2)O_(7)+H_(2)SO_(4)`
