Helium and neon do not form compounds with fluorine-why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

He and Ne are much smaller atoms and possess very high ionisation enthalpy. Both of them do not have d -orbitals in their valence shells and thus cannot be unpaired. In absence of singly occupied orbitals, no sharing is possible with other atoms. Hence, no compounds are formed by He and Ne.
