If a coordination compound, CoCl(3).4NH(...

If a coordination compound, `CoCl_(3).4NH_(3)` is heated, it does not give out `NH_(3)`, while if the same reacts with `AgNO_(3)` solution, gives a white precipitate of `AgCl.` Write the structure and IUPAC name of the compound.

Since the coordination number of cobalt is 6, there are 6 ligands in the coordination sphere of the complex. On heating the compound, `NH_(3)` is not released, is not released, which implies that all 4 `NH_(3)` molecules are present in the coordination sphere. The complex also forms precipitate of `AgCl` when reacted with `AgNO_(3)` solution, which implies that `1Cl^(-)` ion is present in the ionisation sphere while `2Cl^(-)` ions are present in the coordination sphere. Hence, the compound can be represented as `[Co(NH_(3))_(4)Cl_(2)]Cl` and its IUPAC name is tetraamminedichloridocobalt (II) chloride.
