What is the relationship between observed colour of the complex & wavelength of light absorbed by the complex?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When white light falls on a complex, a portaion of it is absorbed. Greater the crystal field splitting, greater is the energy absorbed or shorter is the wavelength absorbed because `(E=hc//lambda)`. The observed colour of the complex is the colour generated from the wavelength left over.
