1-bromobutane is prepared by heating 1-butanol with a mixture of NaBr and `H_(2)SO_(4)` but not with `NaBr` only. Explain.

Since `HO^(Theta)` is a bad leaving group, `Br^(Theta)` coming from NaBr alone cannot subsitute -OH group from 1-butanol to form -1-bromobuane, But in presence of `H_(2)SO_(4)`, -OH group gets protonated to form `-overset(color(red)o+)H_(2)` which has a good leaving group. Hence, `Br^(Theta)` can substitute it is from 1-bromobutane.
