Explain why the following `S_(N)2` reactions do not take place:
(iii) `PhS^(Theta)+CH_(3)CH = CH-BrtoCH_(3)CH=CHSPh+Br^(Theta)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Bromo group is attached with vinylic carbon, thus, backside attack is not feasible through `PhS^(Theta)` is a good nucleophile and `Br^(Theta)` is a good leaving group. Hence the reaction does not take place.
