Offer a test for the distinction between ethyl chloride and chlorobenzene.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ethyl chloirde reacts with `aq.AgNO_(3)` to give white precipitate of AgCl. But cholorobenzene does not reacts with aqueous `AgNO_(3)` as C-Cl bond has partially double bond character due to resonance which is not possible in ethyl chloride.
