This addition reaction proceeds via the formation of carboncation intermidiate. Since `2^(@)` carbocation `CH_(3)overset(o+)(C)H-CH_(3)` is more stable than `1^(@)` carbocation `CH_(3)CH_(2)CH_(2)`, therefore, the major product is `CH_(3)-CHI-CH_(3)`.
