Describe the oxidising action of potassium di chromate in `H_2SO_4` solution with the following-
(i) `H_2S`
(ii) `Na_2S_2O_3`
(iii) NaCl

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In acidic medium `K_2Cr_2O_7` acts as a strong oxidising agent.
(i) `K_2Cr_2O_7` reacts with `H_2S` and oxidises it to sulphur (S)

(ii)`K_2Cr_2O_7` oxidising `(S_2O_3^(2-))` to sulphate `(SO_4^(2-))` salt.

(iii) When NaCl react with `K_2Cr_2O_7` in acidic solution, vapours of chromyl chloride are formed.
